The Church of Oprah?
Some scary stuff!
I would suggest that Christians start investing in good books on apologetics and really study their Bibles in order to counteract this false doctrine. And don't forget to pray. Pray for Oprah's eyes to be opened to the truth. Pray for her viewers who are being led astray. Pray for the false teacher who is getting so much airtime on her show.
Here is a good site that has a lot of resources.
Also, I love Ravi Zacharias' writings, sermons and website. I just purchased his new book, Beyond Opinion- Living the Faith We Defend, and it is very good.
It is time to be disciplined and trained in sound doctrine. The only way we can combat untruth is by knowing the truth. And we must study to show ourselves approved. It is truly sad when those who are in cults are more knowlegeable about their beliefs than Christians. Those in cults spend hours and hours every week studying their false doctrine. How many hours do you spend studying your Bibles every week? And I mean REALLY studying your Bibles? Not just to learn about your own personal pet doctrine but to take in the WHOLE counsel of God's word?

I'm afraid the Church abandoned the study of sound doctrine some time ago. Indeed, this development was imperceptible, but one can see it in things as like the refusal to sing the old hymns, e.g. The Old Rugged Cross, which were beautiful recitations of doctrinal truth.
Of course, when one abandons doctrine, which is unchanging one becomes susceptible to the whims of emotions. One seeks to fill a void with "feelings" and forgets that feelings of spirituality are transitory things. They vanish like a puff of smoke. Doctrine and reason remain, long after feelings and emotions are gone.
Cheers.
I was saddened to hear that what turned her off is when a preacher said God is a jealous God.
We think when we are jealous, that is always bad (it isn't - there is a proper place for jealousy), and it frequently is an emotion that comes from selfish desires.
But God's jealousy is perfect, and right.
Her overall idea is that to say Christianity is right is to put God in a box, and that there are many ways to God.
It doesn't matter if they are each saying opposite things, I guess.
Oprah is not a lost case ... yet. C.S. Lewis wrote that early in his life he rejected Christianity because the Christian/Hebrew God seemed to be preening with all of His demands to be worshiped.
The following description of this is from John Piper's book Desiring God:
"Lewis says that as he was beginning to believe in God, a great stumbling block was the presence of demands scattered through the Psalms that he should praise God. He did not see the point in all this; besides, it seemed to picture God as craving "for our worship like a vain woman who wants compliments." He goes on to show why he was wrong.
"But the most obvious fact about praise-whether of God or anything-strangely escaped me. I thought of it in terms of compliment, approval, or the giving of honor. I had never noticed that all enjoyment spontaneously overflows into praise.... The world rings with praise-lovers praising their mistresses, readers their favorite poet, walkers praising the countryside, players praising their favorite game....
"My whole, more general, difficulty about the praise of God depended on my absurdly denying to us, as regards the supremely Valuable, what we delight to do, what indeed we can't help doing, about everything else we value.
"I think we delight to praise what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment; it is its appointed consummation."
So maybe these are the signs that God is tugging on her heart. We must keep her in prayer.
Richard,
Very good point. Yes, we must keep her in prayer and that the scales from her eyes are removed.
I actually stumbled across that clip while surfing the tv stations the other day. I usually never watch tv at that time of day.
It was sad to hear those words from her and her guest(s) (Kelly, on Skype), knowing that so many people listen to her for encouragement and advice.
Yes -- I'm praying that she comes to the Knowledge of the Truth of the Gospel of Grace by the Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by Him.

As usual, I’m a day late and a dollar short: Monday was “Blogger Appreciation Day,” or so I was told. My intention was to comment at each blog on my Bloglines subscription, but you know where the road paved with good intentions leads…
So here’s a note to let you know that I appreciate you and your writing, Corrie. Thanks for blogging.
(Sorry about yesterday's case of mistaken identity...blush)
Psalmist,
Talk about a day late and a dollar short!
Thank you for your kindness.
HI Corrie! Remember me???????
